Understanding Spray Foam

It's easy to confuse "injection foam" and "spray foam," but there is a difference. Spray polyurethane foam (SPF) is an innovative foam plastic substance that is sprayed onto an OPEN surface in paint-like form and then expands to create an insulating barrier against wind and outside temperatures. Once the insulation sets, it expands to create an insulation barrier against extreme temperatures and moisture. On the other hand, injection foam is used for existing walls that are closed.

What exactly is spray foam insulation?

Spray polyurethane foam (SPF) is an innovative foam plastic substance that is sprayed onto an open surface in paint-like form and then expands to create an insulating barrier against wind and outside temperatures. Once the insulation sets, it expands to create an insulation barrier against extreme temperatures and moisture. Unlike traditional insulation products like fiberglass and cellulose, spray foam insulation doesn't settle or deteriorate over time.

At least 15 percent of energy is lost through your basement and floors, while 25 percent escapes through your attic. That means your air-conditioning and heating system is working twice as hard to maintain steady temperatures throughout your home. This issue is one of the largest contributing factors that cause energy bills to skyrocket through the roof. A combination of spray foam along with blow-in insulation can be an effective combination for attics. Spray foam insulation can easily be applied to open areas like attics, basements, crawl spaces, ceilings and inside unfinished walls.

Spray Foam Insulation Benefits

icon

Air Sealant

Spray foam expands to fill cracks and holes, and once hardened, creates an airtight seal that blocks particularly cold and hot air from entering, preventing indoor drafts. USA Insulation has the highest R-value in its class meaning that our insulation is highly resistant to temperature conduction.

Weather Barrier

Year-round, rain or shine, a protective layer of spray foam insulation keeps the elements out, and your heated and cooled air in. Spray foam insulation also blocks allergens from entering your home, keeping you comfortable year-round.

Vapor Retardant

Moisture is no match for our spray foam. The low permeance or "perm" of the material makes it very effective at lessening the amount of vapor that passes through. And because spray foam won't deteriorate over time, your home will stay protected against moisture and vapor.

Eco-Friendly

Spray foam can help reduce your energy consumption and carbon footprint, protect the environment and boost your overall home comfort, all while limiting the amount of ozone-depleting substances.

Mold Deterrent

Inert polymers prevent bacteria growth and act as a barrier against external moisture. These properties provide better protection against mildew, mold and water damage.

Sound Suppressor

Once spray foam insulation is installed, you will notice an immediate and significant decrease in outside noises.

Spray Foam jobs aren't all big.

It can be perfect for smaller areas, like crawl spaces, as part of a whole-home insulation solution. We'd be happy to take a look as part of your whole-home assessment.

Spray Foam

Best for unfinished walls

  • Efficient - Because spray foam seals cracks and crevices, it is more efficient than traditional fiberglass insulation.
  • Weather barrier - Spray foam acts as a barrier to weather year-round.
  • Eco-friendly - Because it reduces your energy requirements, it is eco-friendly.
  • Mold deterrent - Spray foam contains inert polymers that inhibit bacteria and mold growth.

Injection Foam

Only option to retrofit existing homes by adding insulation inside finished walls

  • Higher R-Value - The "R" value or Resistance Value is 35% more efficient than traditional insulation.
  • Noise reduction - Once installed, injection foam offers an immediate reduction in outside noises.
  • Quick install - Injection foam is installed quickly and cleanly from the outside. Can be added over fiberglass insulation.
  • Improved air quality - The injection foam barrier improves indoor air quality.
  • Best fire and smoke rating - Injection foam acts as a fire barrier that retards the spread of fire.
